blog #6 The Death Penalty

Before we talked about this issue i was for capital punishment and i still am, but i thought about it a different way. Before i thought that it was what the people deserved. I also thought it was the worst punishment someone could get. Mill says that capital punishment isnt immoral, but keeping people in jail without the possiblity of getting out is. So technically keeping someone in jail for life is worse punishment than executing them. I believe thats true, torturing someone is immoral and thats what your are doing to someone by keeping them in prison for life. To be able to respond to these issues i believe you need to be open minded about the topic. You can't just think what you think and not be open to any one elses opinon. To be a more ethical being i feel like you need to have your own principles, but keep an open mind. If you learn new information that makes you question what you believe thats okay. Your principles can change and they most likely will as you get older, beacuse you learn more things and you have more experiences that make you see things differently.
